Oyster Farmer
Lisa Calvo is an oyster farmer, owner of Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm and co-owner of Sweet Amalia Market and Kitchen. Lisa came to oyster farming through a three-decade career as a marine biologist during which she worked on oyster restoration, shellfish ecology, and aquaculture. Oyster farming, which started as a side hustle soon become a way of life for Lisa. Lisa’s Sweet Amalia Oysters are direct delivered from tide-to-table to local Philadelphia and Jersey shore restaurants.
In 2021, Lisa partnered with Chef Melissa McGrath and entrepreneur Ed Pappas to open Sweet Amalia Market and Kitchen a unique roadside farm stand restaurant located in her southern New Jersey hometown of Newfield. A pandemic pivot, the Market expands sales opportunities both for Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm and other small farms and producers while celebrating local foodways.
