Marci Pelchat received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is recently retired from her position as a sensory scientist at the Monell Chemical Senses Center, an institute for basic research on taste and smell. She has taught at and was named an Honorary Professor of Gastronomy at the Restaurant School. She has an international reputation for her funny, yet informative participatory programs. To give a few examples: Her wine and food pairing program has been featured at the Napa Valley Museum, Copia, the Franklin Institute, and at the Oakmont Farmer’s Market. Her beer and food pairing event with Yards brewery was a sell-out at the Philadelphia Science Festival for many years. Her Genetics of Taste and Smell has been everywhere from the Haverford Middle School to the Natural History Museum at the Smithsonian. She has been a board member of the local chapters of the American Institute of Wine and Food, les Dames d’Escoffier, and the Oakmont Farmer’s Market
